Percussionist Gary Joseph Howe is a champion of all styles of percussion music and performance. A native of Cedar City, Utah he began playing drum set at the age of 11, later expanding his passion for musical expression to other areas of percussion performance. At Canyon View High School he performed with the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble. Joseph was also the percussion section leader 3 of the 4 years he attended there from 2000 to 2005 . As a soloist Joseph has won competition, including the marimba collegiate competition at the 2009 Utah Day of percussion. He also won the 2010 Southern Utah University Concerto Competition where he performed Concerto for Marimba and Band by G. Bradly Bodine. In 2011 he won the Performer of the Year award from SUU. He also had the opportunity to go to China with the SUU music department and got to play with the Wuhan Opera orchestra. Currently Joseph is studying at Southern Utah University under the direction of Dr. Lynn Vartan.
